Passcode Protection

Enable Protection First

Move to the top level book, tap the Settings button and set the switch to enable protection. You are asked to provide a four digit passcode. You will now notice the white closed padlock icon in the book view indicating that protection is enabled, but Notebooks is locked.

Unlock Notebooks

When Notebooks is locked, none of the protected books or notes are visible and not even the titles will be displayed. Tap the padlock icon and enter your passcode to unlock Notebooks. The padlock icon changes to a red unlocked padlock icon to alert you that protected books and notes are visible.

If you tap-and-hold the padlock icon for a few moments you will have the option to reset your passcode.

Lock Notebooks

Tap the red padlock icon to lock Notebooks again.

Protect Notes and Books

With protection enabled you need to tell Notebooks which books and notes are confidential. You can do so in the info view (tap the blue blue icon book view or the I-button in the notes view) by flicking on the switch labeled Passcode Protection. You turn off protection for a book or note with the same switch.

Note: the switch is available only with protection enabled.

What Happens to Protected Books and Notes?

  1. When Notebooks is locked there will be no hint of any of the protected items and they will not show up in any list or search result.

  2. When unlocked, protected items will be marked with red titles, which makes them easy to identify.

  3. Protecting a book hides its contents as well. So instead of protecting many notes you can also move them to a protected book.

  4. Moving a book that contains protected items does not change the protection status.

Technical Details

The protection provided by Notebooks is no encryption. Notebooks offers an effective way of keeping confidential information hidden from prying eyes, but the notes are stored unencrypted.
